Responsible Signage

Signs are vital to all aspects of your event, and you have a great opportunity to make those signs sustainable.

You’ll need to label everything from water stations to trash and recycling bins, so plan ahead so your signs will be reusable year to year.

Educating boaters and participants about what can (and can’t) be recycled or composted is a valuable lesson boaters can use long after your event ends. Recycling rules vary from state to state and from country to country, and as an event organizer, it’s your job to let participants know what’s being collected and what’s not. The most effective way to educate people about what can and can’t be recycled or composted is right at the bin. Display effective signs that clearly show your commitment to sustainability.

To fulfill this Best Practice do at least one of the following:

  • Make sure all waste bins are clearly marked RECYCLING or LANDFILL.
  • Reuse signage year after year.
  • Make sure all signage is made from fabric or sustainably sourced material.
