Reports

NOAA Ocean Acidification Fact Sheet
With the increase in ocean acidification, NOAA published this fact sheet on the current state of the science in regard to this worrisome trend. Ocean acidification affects the ability of zooplankton to maintain protective shells, compromising the food chain at its base; reduces the rate at which coral reefs produce their skeletons, which results in reduced habitat for fish, and impairs their ability to protect vulnerable coasts that rely on them as barriers to devastating storms and surf.

Pew Oceans Commission
In June 2000, the 18 members of the independent Pew Oceans Commission embarked on a national review of ocean policies, the first of its kind in more than 30 years. For two-and-a-half years, the commissioners traveled around the country, speaking to thousands of citizens who live and work along the coasts, and worked with dozens of leading scientists to publish a series of reports on pollution, coastal development, marine reserves, fishing, aquaculture, and invasive species.
