Certified Sea Friendly will create a voluntary certification program to transform the marine manufacturing industry and make the construction, maintenance and operation of vessels more environmentally friendly. All individuals who look to the sea for their work and recreation have a unique opportunity and responsibility to restore and protect clean water and ocean health.

Certified Sea Friendly aims to improve the environmental, economic, and social aspects of the boat-building industry.  First and foremost, the goal is to improve the relationship between boats and the environment.  The materials used to construct them, and the ways in which those materials are treated and transported will be chosen with ocean conservation in mind.  By encouraging the use of reusable, recyclable and fewer materials, CSF can help increase profits in building and operating vessels. The certification adds value by creating an advantage within the market for vessels that adhere to ocean conservation principles and by educating the public on the benefits for improving operational and maintenance practices.  Finally, in identifying alternative materials and products for use, CSF aims to improve social responsibility by protecting the health and well-being of workers, users of the final product, and individuals who share the ocean as a resource now and in the future.
