To participate in the Clean Regattas program, commit to carrying out at least one Best Practice from the list below. Regattas that wish to be certified at the Bronze, Silver or Gold Level must engage in enough practices to be certified at that level (5 for Bronze, 10 for Silver, 15 for Gold). Click on the links for more information and ideas on how to carry out each Best Practice.

1.     GREEN TEAM - Assemble a volunteer team to help carry out Clean Regattas 

2.     WATER BOTTLE REDUCTION - Reduce single-use, disposable water bottle use 

3.     TRASH FREE REGATTA - Keep your shores and waters clear of debris

4.     NO DISCHARGE - Prevent discharge of untreated sewage or blackwater

5.     RECYCLING - Provide and promote recycling services

6.     NON-TOXIC PRODUCTS - Use only non-toxic cleaning products during the event

7.     GRAY WATER REDUCTION - reduce runoff of phosphates and nitrates

8.     OIL SPILL PREVENTION - Require that motorized vessels shall carry spill kits

9.     PAPER - Use 100% post-consumer recycled paper or using an electronic registration service

10.   BIODEGRADABLE PRODUCTS - Use durable or biodegradable products for all event activities

11.   BOTTOM PAINT - Use only non-toxic copper-free bottom paints

12.   BOTTOM CLEANING - Prevent bottom cleaning in harbor and sensitive areas

13.   MAINTENANCE - Conduct maintenance activities in approved areas using mitigation measures

14.   CARBON FOOTPRINT - Reduce energy use or purchase carbon offsets.

15.   REGATTA AWARDS - Present recycled or practical race awards

16.   STORMWATER POLUTION PREVENTION - Implement a stormwater management system

17.   ALTERNATIVE FUELS - Use B20 or higher biodiesel or vegetable oil

18.   COMPOST - establishing an on-site or off-site compost system.

19.   TRACK YOUR SUCCESS - Measure as many metrics as possible
