Clean Regattas
Clean Regattas is a third party certification program that helps regattas, yacht clubs and sailing programs voluntarily achieve higher environmental standards at a Bronze, Silver or Gold Level. Sailors for the Sea provides support and materials and the final certification. Past Clean Regattas include the Buzzard's Bay Regatta, St. Maarten Heineken Regatta, Antigua Sailing Week, Volvo Ocean Race at Fan Pier Boston, and many individual yacht clubs and sailing programs.
Rainy Day Kits
Rainy Day Kits are environmental lesson plans focused on marine ecology that can be taught to young sailors in yacht clubs and sailing programs around the country. The kits provide a clear connection to and understanding of the marine ecosystems that thrive beneath their hulls.
Certified Sea Friendly
Certified Sea Friendly will create a voluntary certification program to transform the marine manufacturing industry and make the construction, maintenance and operation of vessels more environmentally friendly. All individuals who enjoy and rely on the sea have a unique opportunity and responsibility to restore and protect clean water and ocean health.
Ocean Watch Essays
The Ocean Watch Program is a free online resource that provides a constant stream of updated articles on current ocean issues such as ocean acidification, plastics, nonpoint source pollution and invasive species. Each essay is accompanied by information on how individuals can make a difference in relation to the issue, creating a linkage from knowledge to personal action.
Team 11th Hour Racing
Team 11th Hour Racing is a collaboration between Sailors for the Sea and the 11th Hour Project. 11th Hour Racing will encourage sustainable practices on the water and at the regattas in which 11th Hour Racing participates.
Around the Americas
Around the Americas circumnavigated the North and South American continents while raising awareness of ocean health issues. Captain Mark Schrader and crew departed Seattle on May 31, 2009 sailing the 64-foot boat S/V Ocean Watch. They have passed through the Northwest Passage, sailed down the east coast, around rounded Cape Horn and returned to Seattle in July 2010.
A Sea Change
This poignant film tackles the probability of a world without fish should humans continue to act and behave as we have for the past century in relation to the environment. According to scientists, such as Dr. Richard Feely of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), this catastrophe will play out in coming generations unless widespread awareness is raised about ocean acidification, its causes, and how to slow or stop it.
