Robert L. Johnstone lll, a founder of both MJM Yachts, LLC, and of J Boats, Inc., the leading fuel-efficient powerboat brand and leading performance sailboat brand respectively, is an entrepreneur whose marketing skills were honed as CEO of Quaker Oats subsidiaries in Colombia and Venezuela, and then in Chicago, where he was named Marketing Man of the Year and ultimately Director of Market Strategy & Analysis. His first start-up was Naturescapes, Inc. which marketed wall-sized murals from leading environmental photographers David Muench, Philip Hyde and Ed Cooper.J Boats, Inc., (taught as a Case Study at Harvard Business School) has licensed builders in the US, Argentina, Australia, France, Italy, Japan and South Africa, and has built over 12,500 sailboats from 22 to 65 feet in length. Eighteen of its designs have been awarded Boat-of-the-Year honors in the past 33 years, the most recent being in 2010, with the J/95 scoring a unique triple, becoming Sailing World's, Cruising Worlds and SAIL's Boat of the Year in 2010. MJM Yachts LLC was founded in 2003 to introduce the 34z, a patented, high-tech, fuel-efficient boat that addresses the baby boomer generation's downsizing from larger power and sail. Since more than 100 boats have been built in three models including the 29z and new 40z.Bob has sailed all his life and believes the world would be a better place to live if more people get out on the sea to appreciate its beauty. He served as Chairman of the RI Sailboat Industry Council, US Sailing's One-Design Class Council, the International J/24 Class and the US Youth Sailing Championship, which he founded. He has been Secretary-Treasurer of the US Olympic Yachting Committee and currently races his J/100 while serving as Commodore of the Northeast Harbor Fleet.
